Tuberculosis mortality nearly halved since 1990

 The fight against tuberculosis is paying off, with this year’s death rate nearly half of what it was in 1990. Nevertheless, 1.5 million people died from TB in 2014. Most of these deaths could have been prevented, according to WHO’s Global tuberculosis report 2015, which was released today in Washington.

Ban Ki-moon: Malaysia's TB eradication efforts remarkable

 


KUALA LUMPUR: UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon has commended Malaysia for its examplary tuberculosis (TB) eradication efforts.

He said it was remarkable to see Malaysia provide free TB treatment while integrating the treatment in primary care made a difference in people's life.

Stop TB!

 
World TB Day on March 24 reminds us to be ever vigilant against this ‘hardy’ disease.

EVERY year, March 24 is celebrated as World TB Day. This is the date the germ causing tuberculosis was announced to the world by Dr. Robert Koch, in Berlin, Germany.

To this day, the tuberculosis (TB) infection remains with us, and in Malaysia, the numbers affected by TB is growing, with new TB cases in Malaysia having reached 20,000 last year.
