Earlier this year, US researchers monitored Google search queries about quitting smoking over the past five years in English, French, Chinese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish, finding that search volumes peaked on Monday, almost every week, in all languages.

GEORGE TOWN: Adnan Bidin, who puffed away for almost 35 years, never thought that he would ever quit smoking.

“I tried many times to quit but each attempt was less successful than the last,” said the 56-year-old who used to smoke between 20 and 30 sticks a day. He had his first stick at the age of 21.
