Hot Weather: Advice To The Public




Hot weather physical stress on the human body. The effect can be of the same level (mild) to which can cause death due to heat stroke eg.


Everyone is at risk of becoming victims of hot weather. However, there are groups that are more at risk:

Those involved in physical activity outside activities such as labor, farmers, athletes, military, police and others.
Adults (aged 40 years and above have 10 times the risk compared with those younger).
Children ages 5 and under.
People with respiratory disease.
People with high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and diseases of the thyroid gland.

Increased risk if they wear a thick and tight clothing that prevents the heat out of the evaporation / drying sweat.
Symptoms of extreme hot weather is:

Headache
Fatigue
Poor Concentration
Dizziness
Muscle weakness or cramps
Nausea and vomiting
Conditions are too severe can cause dehydration (dryness), confusion and loss of consciousness (coma).

Ways to prevent or reduce the health effects caused by extreme hot weather:

4.1 You Need:

Drink lots of plain water with irrespective of their level of physical activity you do. Do not wait until you are thirsty.
Isotonic drink because it can replace the salt and minerals lost during sweating.
As far as possible, you need to be in the home / building
Limit outdoor activities
Frequent rest
Bath or use a fan to cool your body
Wear lightweight, light-colored and loose.
Wear a hat or umbrella

4.2 Avoid:

Drink beverages that contain caffeine, alcohol, or high sugar content.
Letting someone in a closed car.
Exercising in hot weather

 If you have signs of heat-related problems, remember the tips below;

Out of the hot area
Remove tight clothing
Put a cold wet cloth on the body
Use a fan to cool down
Drink water every 15 minutes
Get help if the situation can not be controlled
