Two Japanese brand milk powder brought to the laboratory
PUTRAJAYA, August 9 - The Health Ministry is making an analysis of the Japanese who banned sale by Hong Kong.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said he would not hesitate to prohibit the sale of milk powder and Morinaga Wakodo if its contents do not meet the prescribed conditions.
"I have ordered the officers to take samples and analyze immediately. Sometimes in milk may be derived from a different source from those in Hong Kong and the content is different.
"If the content is similar (with in Hong Kong), then we will ban perjualannya in Malaysia," he told reporters here today.
He was commenting on the Hong Kong government finding that the milk powder brands and Morinaga recorded Wakodo inadequate levels of iodine can affect the thyroid gland and brain.
The Hong Kong government today urged parents to buy the two brands to bring their children to undergo blood tests at selected health centers.
Elaborating, Tiong Lai said he set strict conditions for baby milk powder in which each item must comply with the relevant standards.
"The amount of iodine in milk powder for example, can not be too low or too high," he said.
